Nexentastor iSCSI Datastore with ESXi 4.0 9 Months, 2 Weeks ago

I've been having problems getting my iSCSI datastore to work with ESXi 4.0.
I've read the following on the VMWare Plugin page:
VMware iSCSI Datastores will not work with ESXi versions >= 4.0
Does that mean that iSCSI Datastores don't work with ESXi 4.0 or that the VMWare plugin doesn't work with ESX1 4.0?
I allready have an NFS share connected to ESXi but would rather work with the iSCSI interface...
Hope that someone can help me out.
Thanks in advance.
Robertino.

VMware ESX 4 (havent tried esxi 4, but its gotta be mostly the same) has a wacky iSCSI target memory...
I had problems seeing a target as well and resorted to re-installing ESX4. then everything worked again.
This problem rears its head when you change the IP address of
your iSCSI server or change the LUNS around or make other
modifications that change the "remembered" iSCSI configuration
in ESX4.
For testing, I recommend you get the free windows iscsi initiator and make sure you can connect to your Nexenta iSCSI datastore. Get everything configured the way you want, then
you can connect ESX(i) 4.0 to it.
Note, there are also many patches to ESX 4 that you may want to apply (using virtual center and update mgr is the easiest way to do this, get a free trial and go 4 it) Im certain there are iSCSI patches in the 4.0 - 4.0 update 1 patch
set I saw.
Basic ESX4 iscsi configuration:
Turn on the ESX4 iscsi initiator
add your static host
rescan all
dont bother with CHAP or any auth at first
then you should be able to go to configuration/storage,
add
and you should see the unformatted iscsi luns from your
iscsi server.
there are better walkthrus than this out there on the net, so use your google.
hope that helps a little
Matt

Sorry about a stupid qiestion, that might disturb you.
not a line to fit.
Just registered and see no options to create a new discussion on the matter i worry about.
iSCSI volume formatting tooks a very long time. Are any tools avalable to format Nexenta iscsi target on a host side to prevent a time/bandwdith utilisation?
thanks/n

We are having this issue and no one really answered it.
My Guess is using ESX/ESXi 4 with the developer version is a no go area.
What is not clear is is ESX/ESXi compatible with version 3 community edition?
