building up replacement for netapp FAS2050 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello,

I have customer asked me to build up solution what would replace their current platform which is I guess FAS2050. I don't have much of the info on it. Our plan it to take 2 x DL370 with P800 controllers and put it head-to-head for active-active configuration on nexentastor. Only dedup is available and there is version 3.1, they would probably upgrade it.

So my question is this right way to go since we ca add NIC, FC cards in DL370, they can hold up to 24 drives and can me expanded with MSA enclosures ...

Please let me know ...

This looks like a reasonable configuration.

In preparation for deduplication, and for generally better performance,
you should consider planning for plenty of RAM. The DL370 has 18 DIMM
slots, so it should be relatively inexpensive to make plenty of RAM
available for ZFS caching and the deduplication table.

Also, I am considering to DL170h dual node server with MSA70 wich will give me 25 drives + redundant controllers. However, I really don't know who Nexenta actually will work in this scenario. Is it possible to simulate actual controllers from NetApp as well as other vendors? If this is possible, then it may be over with expensive storage

The HP DL170h looks like a good choice, too. It only has 2 GbE ports and
3 expansion slots, so there are some limits to its scalability when you want
to build a HA storage system.
