NexentaStor supports physical slots to LUNs mapping based on on-disk GUID:

NexentaStor slot mapping utility produces a map { disk GUID <=> slot number }. This map, as well as JPEG image of the box (with drive slots shown and enumerated) is used then by the NexentaStor UI to perform related monitoring and management (including fault management) operations.

Note that slotmap graphics (such as the one shown above) is hardware platform specific. Since NexentaStor is hardware neutral and can be installed on dozens and hunderds existing platforms, the actual box-specific slot mapping graphics is supplied by our hardware partners. It is therefore expected that a slot mapping graphics (similar to the one shown above) , for a given hardware platform installed with NexentaStor is prepared by a Partner.The following

nmc$ setup lun slotmap

will initiate blinking of each device LED in the system. It will first print the GUID of the device and then make it blink. You can then use the (box-specific) slotmap graphics to locate the device in the box.

The appliance's GUI does not need to be re-built to work with a new slot mapping. A hardware partner can run a simple utility to pre-generate the slotmap file for a given hardware platform installed with NexentaStor. For information, please contact us at sales@nexenta.com.

Needless to say that, when locating devices, make sure that the I/Os are not be happening. Otherwise, all drives will be blinking randomly, as always.

Use these interfaces to both, administer and view slot mapping, and locate the devices.

Existing drive <=> slot mapping can be modified and additional mappings can be added.

To initiate complete "re-mapping", just remove /var/lib/nza/slotmap file and run NMC command:

nmc$ setup lun slotmap 

Note again that slot mapping graphics needs to be copied to /var/lib/nza prior to that of course.
