NexentaStor®

The free version of NexentaStor® Enterprise Edition is a fully functional version of the 3rd generation of the NexentaStor software without capacity limitations and with access to commercial support as well as access to commercial plugins. To activate these optional modules, you simply need to select them from the NexentaStor user interface.

NexentaStor® 3.x was the first commercial solution to include ZFS based in-line deduplication as well as a full range of other differentiating capabilities mentioned below.

You can easily convert your free trial to a commercial license simply by entering the license key you will receive via email when you purchase a license.

When you evaluate NexentaStor you may wish to examine a number of capabilities that other storage solutions cannot match including:

• Deduplication for primary storage:

NexentaStor® 3.0 revolutionizes storage by providing deduplication for primary (production)storage. This functionality enables customers to reduce their use of expensive and scarce primary storage. NexentaStor 3.0 exceeds the functionality of legacy deduplication by also offering bi-directional replication with compression and deduplication, superior end-to-end data integrity, and accelerated I/O through the native use of SSDs and hardware accelerators leveraged by the revolutionary ZFS file system.

• Virtualization storage management via VM Data Center:

Virtualization and open storage are the two primary forces changing enterprise storage today. NexentaStor's VM Data Center optional module allows you to see and manage the storage aspects of all your virtual servers from one location. You can also clone VMs in 90% less time while consuming 80-90% less storage space. For example, create 300+ identical VMs via VMDC in under a minute, saving hours and 90% of the storage space that would be required if you cloned these VMs via vSphere. With VMDC 3.0, support for Microsoft Hyper-V was added, thereby enabling powerful management of the three market-leading virtualization platforms from one interface.

• High Availability via the High Availability Cluster (HA Cluster) Plugin:

The purpose of HA Cluster is to eliminate the NexentaStor intances themselves as a single point of failure. The HA Cluster plugin enables two NexentaStor instances to be configured as an active / active pair. When installed and configured, each instance of NexentaStor is able to perform all NexentaStor functions without limitation. At the same time, along with another NexentaStor instance, the Plugin provides high availability for shared storage accessible from both appliances.

• True unified virtualized storage:

NexentaStor can virtualize almost any underlying storage and can present that storage out via almost any NAS or SAN protocol. You can even create pools that cross legacy and new JBOD targets, and present them via yet another protocol as required. This storage virtualization helps you to protect your prior investments while saving you management time and costs as you expand your storage.

NexentaStor supports Fiber Channel target mode via the Target optional module. This module makes it easy to establish highly granular control over your block level target mappings.

• Unlimited snapshots:

Use NexentaStor's Auto-Tier or Auto-Sync to create non-CPU impacting snapshots as frequently as you would like for as long as you would like. For example use snapshots to keep a backup or disaster recovery copy in sync over a LAN or WAN. And NEVER run out. AND, find those snapshots thanks to integrated search. And keep in mind you can also use NexentaStor's Auto-CDP to keep a true block-level mirror of your storage over an IP network as well.

• Unlimited file size:

With NexentaStor the file system is NOT the bottleneck. Why struggle with solutions based on 1990s technology that force you to chop files into pieces?

• Detect and correct silent data corruption:

Nothing can absolutely prevent silent data corruption. You can find a summary of a paper from the 2007 USENIX Conference on File and Storage Technologies as well as a link to the paper here showing that technology (and price tag) have no bearing on the frequency of data corruption.

NexentaStor can, however, detect ever more inevitable drive errors thanks to the use of 128bit check sums and can correct them if you use the built in RAID Z and RAID Z2 capabilities. Because of these capabilities -- plus the breadth of snapshot and mirroring capabilities included with NexentaStor -- you will enjoy superior data integrity from NexentaStor than from older solutions.
